Floyd Mayweather Jr. has never been one to shy away from a microphone or speaking to the press. Recently, he’s shared his thoughts about Terrence Crawford, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and much more. In the midst of his recent press run, Mayweather Jr. offered a helping hand to two-time heavyweight titles Anthony Joshua.
Earlier this year, Anthony Joshua suffered his second career defeat at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk. In the wake of the mild upset, Joshua’s critics have called for the fighter to part ways with his head trainer Rob McCracken. While Mayweather Jr. isn’t calling for Joshua to part ways with McCracken, he is offering to train him as he awaits his next fight with Usyk.
“I told him from the beginning, I told him to come and I could teach him some pointers. A lot of the time, this is just my take, the same coach you had as an amateur doesn’t always make you a great professional,” Mayweather Jr. told reporters, according to Boxing Scene.
“Some guys are great at amateur coaching and some guys are great at professional coaching, and even my dad was the best at professional. At the amateurs, he was teaching me like a professional, so I’m going to always speak real whether people like it or not.:
Joshua and Mayweather Jr. do have a friendly relationship. However, it is unclear is Joshua will accept the offer to work with the former world titles in Las Vegas, Nevada.
