Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s much-anticipated fight against Manny Pacquiao is finally set for May 2nd, Mayweather announced on his Shots social media app Friday.

“What the world has been waiting for has arrived,” Mayweather wrote. “Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done, and we did. We will make history on May 2nd. Don’t miss it!
The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is the fight that some believe will save boxing and bring the sport back to prominance. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are perhaps the greatest and most accomplished boxers of their generation. The only thing that neither fighter has done to this point is meet each other in the ring, until now which relieves and excited boxing fans who now anticipate the super fight.
There is no question the sport of boxing has taken a backseat to other combat sports such as mixed martial arts with the UFC taking dominant command of the pay-per-view audience in recent years. Boxing desperately needs a game-changer to get eyes to look back at their sport and turn the page in their favor.
