The Minnesota Timberwolves is controlled by Flip Saunders. Saunders is the head coach and the general manager. So the basketball ops in Minny is all based on what Saunders does. And from what he has done this season such as acquiring number 1 pick and favorite to win Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins. I think Saunders can chalk this season up as a half decent one. Of course they hot barely any wins. But you can clearly see that they have a plan.
As for Saunders. He plans to keep coaching the team until he feels like he shouldn’t anymore.
“I’ll coach until I feel we need to move in a different direction,” Saunders said
“You have to keep on developing those players,” Saunders said. “When they get to their third and fourth years, usually that’s kind of what they are and they can make huge jumps these first and second years.”
“I don’t want to get to the playoffs; I want to build a team that can win in the playoffs,” Saunders said. “That’s what we’re trying to do. If you’re going to try to do quick fixes just to get there, you might get there, but you might be back out of it soon. That’s not what our goal is.“
Win the Playoffs. Hmm. Now that is a very. VERY long shot. Especially when you’re in the Western Conference. Look at the teams that are going to rebuild at the same time they are. Utah, Los Angeles. Denver, Phoenix Sacramento need to stop being mediocre. They have a chance to be in the Playoffs in a few years. But win it? I’m not so sure.
