New place, new heartbreak.
At least, that’s what an emerging singer-songwriter named Flare experienced at the young age of 17 when he made his way from Hong Kong to Los Angeles. Lost in the bright lights and bustle of the City of Angels with a crushed heart, loneliness consumed him. However, he transformed crushing heartache and piercing loneliness into 245 seconds of magic. He calls it “Baby I Get Lost,” but some may call it one of the most soothing tracks released this month.
Recorded entirely in his bedroom, “Baby I Get Lost” is a peak into the emotional journey Flare experienced when he arrived on the West Coast. Weaving in and out of the angelic melodies provided by the underlying acoustic guitar, the Los Angeles transplant delivers poetic line after poetic line as his soulful vocals carry the listener through the four-minute song.
“It was all so simple,” he sings.
“But now that you’re gone, I sit cold in a lonely temple where my heart used to be. And I can’t leave [because] the world pushed us away from each other.”
Flare may be relatively unknown to most listeners, but the message he conveys throughout “Baby I Get Lost” is familiar to many. The relatable track is featured in a short film from his childhood friend, Carys Caldwell, and is available below.
