Protect Your Self: Five Reasons To Get A VPN

Internet use is a pivotal piece of society today. Students cannot learn without proper internet access, hospitals cannot operate at an optimum level without internet access and elections will struggle without proper internet access. Simply put, everyday society relies on internet access in every facet. Unfortunately, this reliance leaves many internet citizens vulnerable to cyberattacks during life or death situations like flying an airplane or operating a hospital.

“In the aviation industry, safety is job 1. So we’re not using the word cybersecurity, we’re using the word safety. Safety of the digital self. And that resonates with our 80,000+ employees at Delta,” Deborah Wheeler, CISO of Delta Airlines, said.

Adding on, a recent study at the University of Maryland found that a computer is hacked nearly every 30 seconds.

”Privacy is one of the biggest problems in this new electronic age,” Intel CEO Andy Grove said.

Knowing this, it is imperative that every internet user takes the utmost precaution to protect themselves and their private information. There is antivirus software available and security extensions can be installed into internet browsers, but many people often overlook one easy-to-use tool that can protect one’s privacy — a VPN.

“As we’ve come to realize, the idea that security starts and ends with the purchase of a prepackaged firewall is simply misguided,” Art Wittman stated.

Whether it’s through Surfshark VPN or another provider, there are a number of different options available for internet users. For those who are unaware of the advantages, here are just a few reasons why a VPN would be helpful.

VPNs Assist With Secure Online Banking

As previously noted, much of society is digitally integrated, including banking systems. Unfortunately, online banking is also a target of cyberattacks. To ensure the safety of your private information and funds, VPNs are a welcomed safeguard.

VPNs Secure Public Wifi Connections

Yes, it’s true that advanced technology has made public internet connections safer than they’ve ever been. However, internet users can never be too safe. Whether it’s at a local coffee shop or the airport, VPNs can assist in making internet browsing that much safer.

VPNs Allow Access To Content Around The World

One of the more underrated aspects of a VPN is its ability to mask a device’s location. When using a VPN, internet users can access content around the world. For example, a Netflix subscriber in South Korea or Nigeria can watch the streaming platform’s American content at any time. The same is true for American subscribers watching hoping to watch content overseas.

VPNs Protect Your Personal Browsing Data

Oftentimes, internet browsers and search engines track a user’s location, interests and other information. When using platforms like Google or Yahoo, VPNs protect users from having their cookies and other pivotal data collected and distributed to third parties.

VPNs Safeguard Various Smart Devices

VPNs are not exclusively used on laptops. They can also be used on phones, tablets and desktop computers. Each VPN company differs, but many providers offer plans that help keep you safe on multiple devices.
