Drake has never been shy about expressing his love for the sporting world. Over the years, he’s been spotted shooting hoops with the University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball Team and hanging out in the gym with Anthony Joshua. This time around, he’s taking things up a notch.
FC Barcelona jerseys typically feature a number of logos from prominent sponsors, including Spotify. During an upcoming match against Real Madrid, the world-renowned soccer club will swap out the streaming service’s logo with Drake’s October’s Very Own logo.
“Spotify has given this privileged space on the jersey as part of the framework of the partnership with the Club, just one of the actions that both brands are putting into place to offer innovative experiences for football fans, as well as helping to reach new audiences through music,” FC Barcelona shared in a statement with CBC Sports.
Not only will Drake’s OVO logo be featured on FC Barcelona’s jersey during the match, but each of the pre-game jerseys will feature the number 50 on the back. The number will represent and celebrate Drake’s accomplishment of becoming the first artist on the popular streaming service to amass 50 billion streams globally.
“We were really excited to celebrate one of the biggest games of the year and mark Drake’s milestone as the first artist to reach 50 billion streams,” Marc Hazan of Spotify said, per Sporting News.
“We’ve always said that we want this partnership to be a celebration of fans, players and artist’s on a global stage — and there’s no bigger stage than El Clasico.”
This is not the first time that FC Barcelona has done such a thing. In the past, the team’s jerseys have promoted films like Spider-Man and Peter Pan.
FC Barcelona will take on Real Madrid at 10:15 a.m. EST on October 16, 2022.
