Anthony Mason tragically passed away last year in a shock to many people. He was a New York Knicks fan favorite and he exemplified the tone of the mid-90s and the Knicks. Mason was a cult hero to many and he will forever live on in the memory of NBA fans for his hard play and effort on the court.
It appears that Mason will also be remembered for something else related to his NBA career. On a recent episode of ‘Highly Questionable’ on ESPN, rapper Fat Joe revealed that he has heard rumblings that the classic Notorious B.I.G. song ‘I Got a Story to Tell’, which artfully paints a story of his infidelities with a female who has relations with a New York Knicks player, was about Anthony Mason.
“I could tell you but I don’t wanna be disrespectful,” Fat Joe said before revealing the name. “It was about Anthony Mason. That was… you know. That was about Ant Mason. Ant Mason’s my brother. I love Ant Mason. But you gotta also know that rappers… This is entertainment, so we stretch the truth. We change things up.”
Listen to Biggie’s story in his classic song from 1997.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumbling about this song being based on a true story. Former Knicks star John Starks said in 2014 that he knew it was a true story but wouldn’t tell who it was.
