Introducing “Haati Chai” a jewelry line started in Los Angeles by Stella Simona. “Haati Chai” means “elephant and tea” in Bengali, and is a line that combines contemporary styles in jewelry making with jewelry making techniques and styles from India.
I met the designer Stella recently on a shoot, and ever since I’ve fallen in love with her jewelry line! She creates such unique statement pieces that are to die for. When I asked her who her favorite designer was she responded, “I honestly look up to the traditional Indian artisans who design as if they are designing a story. Each piece tells you something. You carry it for generations and my favorite is that no two pieces are exactly the same, there is always something tweaked or varied. There is no end to their design. A jeweler in America once told me they brought over Indian pieces before for technique inspiration of their designs, and no one could master the traditional Indian style. I love my roots. Haati Chai is a westernized contemporary twist to east Indian design.”
