It wasn’t too long ago that Travis Outlaw was still in the NBA. After drafted in the 2003 NBA draft, Outlaw went on to play for 4 NBA teams over 11 years, until he dwindled out of the league in 2014 with his last stint on the Sacramento Kings. Now, it looks like Outlaw has moved on from NBA basketball to catching felony charges. According to Carl Smith of CDI Dispatch:
Former professional basketball player Travis Outlaw was arrested Tuesday after a grand jury indicted him on a felony marijuana charge.
The indictment, issued July 15, states the Starkville native possessed an amount of the drug greater than 250 grams but less than 1 kilogram on July 23, 2015.
Outlaw was arrested and booked at the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department for possession of a controlled substance. He was released that same day after posting a $10,000 bond.
Possessing between 250 and 1000 grams of marijuana is quite a lot. Which shows that Outlaw either had the intention to re-sell or to store for later use, which is probably the reason this is a felony charge and not a mis-demeanour. I’m not sure if Outlaw has any intentions of coming back to the NBA, but this is going to make it a lot harder, teams will be less-likely to pick a player trying to fight a drug charge.
