As Monumental Sports and Entertainment has to begin looking for a new sponsor for their arena as their contract with Verizon runs out in 2018, their signing with Etithad Airways proves to be a hint as to what the new name of the stadium could be. Monumental Sports and Entertainment has other sponsors that could also take the name, but this newest signing may end up becoming the frontrunner for the new name of the Verizon Center.
Monumental Sports and Entertainment owns the Wizards, Capitals, and Mystics, and is looking to grow their international brand.
The speculation can go on and on about what the name will be no matter who gets the contract, but a name could include Etihad Airways Arena, or something along those lines. Whatever the name will be, it will not make up for fans being able to take a trip to “The Phone Booth” and watch their teams play.
All fans can do now is watch and hope the name is a little catchy, or something that would sound cool when the broadcasters talk about where the game is being played. For now, the speculation will continue, and this signing will certainly start the rumor mill flying.
