At this point, I think it’s safe to put Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ in the conversation of just what record ruled Summer 2015. Over the past few months, the record has not only been a hit with the general public, but it has also sparked admiration and covers from the likes of his peers. Sitting at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, chart position aside, I’ll go out on a limb and say this is one of Drizzy’s best records.
Next up to put her own amazing spin on the inescapable song is none other than the eclectic Erykah Badu. The R&B diva not only covered the record, but she delivered an almost brand new rendition that conveys itself as three new songs in one. With more melody changes than I can count, Erykah’s ‘Hotline Bling But U Can’t Use My Phone’ is nothing short of genius. It’s only fair that I put it in the atmosphere and claim that Drake and Erykah translate their versions into a live showing.
