Erik Spoelstra has had many fantastic and upsetting seasons as an NBA coach. From losing in Finals in the first year of the LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh Heatles, to winning two championships, to coaching a rag tag group of NBA players. The group he has seemed to adore the most is the latter. Starting off 11-30, the Heat looked like they were in store for one of the worst seasons in franchise history.
Instead, they got an incredible 13-game winning streak and a 30-11 finish to the season. The Heat became massively fun to watch. Goran Dragic/Hassan Whiteside pick and rolls, hard-nosed defense, effort, James Johnson being one of the best reserves in the NBA. It was all very exciting basketball until it wasn’t enough.
The Heat fell about a half-game shy of the playoffs. The basketball Gods surprisingly smiling on the antithesis of current day NBA basketball, the Chicago Bulls. In the post game press conference, Erik Spoelstra was visibly shaken.
“I don’t know if I have ever felt this way about a team before.”
“I don’t know if I have ever wanted something more for a team”
As disappointing as the Heat missing the playoffs was, it was just another thing that made this season great. Even without a playoff series or two, Miami Heat fans should remember this season fondly. You can watch the whole clip from Fox Sports Florida below.
