After missing 21 games due to a torn labrum, Pelicans guard Eric Gordon is expected to return and start tonight against the Wizards.
Coach Monty Williams has yet to confirm the news, but Gordon himself told reporters at Monday’s shoot around that he would return to the starting lineup.
”I’m going to give it a go tonight and I’m very excited to get back out there,” Gordon said. ”With me it’s all about winning. I’m not trying to be a stat stuffer, trying to do this and do that. It’s all about whatever it takes to win games. But it seemed all along I was going to be able to probably start.”
Gordon was injured in a Nov. 22 game against the Utah Jazz. After going through extensive rehabilitation work for the past five weeks, which included weight lifting and shooting drills, he was able to return.
”I just hope I can finish out the rest of the season without dealing with too many hits to my shoulder or what not,” Gordon said. ”It’s going to be up to coach, but think I’m going to just play normal like regular as play as much as I can.”
The Pelicans also announced Monday morning that Tyreke Evans is questionable to play because of illness. Evans was not seen at the team’s shoot around on Monday.
With the return of Gordon, Evans is expected to slide from shooting guard back to small forward where he strated the first 12 games of the year at.
