New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon has decided to opt in for 2015-2016 season and locks in a $15,514,031 salary which he would never have gotten on the open market.
Gordon averaged 13 points per game and 3 assists in 61 games last season. Gordon enters his final year playing under newly hired head coach Alvin Gentry who Gordon attempted to join back in 2012 when he signed the Phoenix Suns’ offer sheet.

If Gordon can stay healthy which has been an issue so far in his career and shoot as well as he did last season he could find himself getting another nice payday.
When Gordon was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers back in 2008 he looked ready to become one of the top shooting guards in the league, but injuries and underachieving pieces around him have put Gordon in a tough position.
If Gordon doesn’t produce like the Pelicans want and if the trade deadline is approaching for the Pelicans I can see his expiring contract being moved to get some help alongside Anthony Davis, which in the Pelicans post-season appearance he clearly needed.
As the NBA draft approaches we may hear a situation where Gordon or other Pelicans players could be moved to get Gentry players that will fit his high-octane offense.
