The Pelicans have been no strangers to injuries this season, and Eric Gordon is now their second starter declared out for the season due to injury (the first was Tyreke Evans). In a press release the Pelicans announced that Gordon will miss the rest of the 2015-16 season:
The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that guard Eric Gordon underwent successful surgery this afternoon to repair his fractured right ring finger. He will miss the remainder of the 2015-16 season.
Gordon, 6-4, 215, has appeared in 45 games this season for New Orleans, averaging 15.2 points, 2.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 32.9 minutes per contest.
Gordon underwent surgery in January to repair his fractured right ring finger and missed 16 games while rehabbing. He returned to the Pelicans lineup on February 27 and re-injured the same finger after playing four games, which required another surgery.
Set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, Gordon, 27, will have his suitors. The Pelicans were reportedly considering trading Gordon before his initial injury in January and before the trade deadline, but the injury made him less attractive. This is Gordon’s fifth season with the Pelicans after spending his first three with the Clippers. He averages over 16 points per game for his career.
