The Kansas City Chiefs will be keeping offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after he interviewed to be a Head Coach for a few teams. His contract with the Cheifs had expired and there were some rumors that he would not be returning to the organization. Despite interviewing for several jobs he was not hired to be a Head Coach in the NFL once again. The team and coordinator agreed to terms for him to return and run the explosive NFL offense.
Eric Bieniemy is returning to Kansas City this season as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, as @jeffrichadiha reported.

Eric Bieniemy has been heralded as one of the best offensive minds in the NFL and a person of interest to watch for head coaching jobs. Thus far, he has not gotten one of those jobs despite plenty of interviews. With the Chiefs, he helped the team capture a victory in Super Bowl LIV and won the Sporting News Coordinator of the Year Award in 2020. He has been instrumental in implementing an offense with a quarterback Patrick Mahomes that has made defenses across the NFL quake in fear.

At this point it might be in Eric Bieniemy’s best interest to wait for Head Coach Any Reid to retire, but the one-year deal suggests otherwise. He has long desired to be an NFL head coach and this move suggests he will interview and try once again next year. Eventually, a team may give him the shot he has more than earned at this point. If not the Kansas City Chiefs should when Reid does decide to retire from coaching.
