The league later confirmed it in a statement: “The scheduling decision came out of the NBA family’s focus on promoting nonpartisan civic engagement and encouraging fans to make a plan to vote during midterm elections.”
During the midterm elections, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be contested.
In addition, NBA teams will distribute information, over the next few months, on their state’s voting process and the voter registration deadlines. Also, on November 7, the league will use the games played to amplify the work that each team has done to promote civic engagement in their respective cities and share important voting resources from their partners.
The league will release the full regular-season schedule on Wednesday, August 17.
