Red Sox rookie pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez dazzled the Rangers in his major league debut. The 22 year old threw 7 2/3 innings, allowing only 3 hits and no runs. The Red Sox were victorious by a score of 5-1 on the heels of Rodriguez pitching performance. Rodriguez worked at a fast pace showing off his 95-96 mile per hour fastball while displaying a nasty change up. Rodriguez was in control from start to finish, an excellent start to his big league career.
The initial plan was to send Rodriguez back down after his start allowing for a rest day for the normal rotation pitcher but now that plan could change. After already replacing Justin Masterson with the knuckleballer Steven Wright, Joe Kelly could be ultimately be replaced by Rodriguez. Kelly sports an ugly 6.24 ERA and has been a complete disappointment since coming over from St. Louis in the John Lackey trade. I expect Rodriguez to get another big league start coming off his dazzling performance in Texas.
