Eddie Murphy will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 80th Golden Globe Awards. Presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the award is presented to an influential figure who has made “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” Since the award was established in 1952, the honor has been bestowed upon Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey and Robin Williams among others.
“We’re honored to present this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award to the iconic and highly esteemed Mr. Eddie Murphy,” Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Helen Hoehne stated, per THR.
“We’re thrilled to be celebrating the lasting impact on film and television that his career — in front of and behind the camera — has had through the decades.”
This is not the first time that Murphy has received an award of this magnitude. Previously, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Critics Choice Association. He has also received the Hall of Fame Award at the NAACP Image Awards.
As it pertains to the Golden Globe Awards, Murphy has earned six nominations at the prestigious awards ceremony. However, his lone victory at the event came back in 2007 for his contributions to Dreamgirls.
Hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, the 80th Golden Globe Awards are set to take place at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on January 10, 2023.
