With LaMarcus Alrdidge and possibly Robin Lopez likely leaving in free agency, the Portland Trail Blazers need to improve on their power forward depth. They took a step forward in doing that today by signing former Raptors, Grizzlies, and Lakers’ power forward Ed Davis, who opted out of his contract a couple weeks ago.
From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports:
Ed Davis will sign a three-year, $20 million deal with Portland, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

That’s a pretty good deal for Portland. Davis is a solid big man. He’ll be a big body in the frontcourt, at 6’10” and 240 pounds. It’s also a possibility that LaMarcus Aldridge stays in Portland. Even with the signing of Davis, Portland still has the cap space to sign both Aldridge and Lopez. In the unlikely event that those two both return to Portland, the Blazers will have bolstered their bench by adding a quality backup big man.
The Trail Blazers added another quality player yesterday in Al-Farouq Aminu. Aminu and Davis should both add defense to this Blazers team.
Ed Davis averaged 8.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game last year in just 23.3 minutes per game for the Lakers. He also shot an impressive 60.1% from the field.
