We’re only two days into the new year, but a lot has happened in the world of Hip-Hop and R&B. Thus far, Kanye has stepped away from headlining Coachella, Drake and Chris Brown have hinted at a collaboration and 2 Chainz just returned with a brand new video. Not to mention, it’s almost time for another Friday with new music. Among the many things already taking place in 2019, something big has happened over at Apple Music.
Ebro Darden of Hot 97 has been named Apple Music’s Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop and R&B. Ebro first collaborated with Apple Music for their Beats 1 Global Live Stream which has featured the likes of Zane Lowe and Julie Adenuga. In addition to his new role, Ebro Darden will continue his position at Hot 97 and host of his own Beats 1 show.
Alongside the announcement, Apple Music released a press release to contextualize the move. The press release reads, “As Apple Music’s new Global Head of Hip-Hop and R&B, Ebro will manage a team of Hip-Hop and R&B editors as they build out editorial plans for artists, albums and song releases.” The press release adds, “He will also have a leadership role within the company to find ways to connect with urban music communities and beyond.”
This move marks a recent run for Hip-Hop media personalities. Last year, Power 105.1’s Charlamagne Tha God picked up a deal with HBO for a limited series and Wayno officialy joined Everyday Struggle. More recently, Joe Budden partnered with Spotify to exclusively release his podcast on their platform. Hopefully, 2019 will be even more prosperous for those in the world of Hip-Hop media.
