Eastern Washington men’s basketball coach Jim Hayford was a guest of Jim Rome’s radio program this week to discuss his teams matchup in the NCAA Tournament against Georgetown.
Hayford, who did his best Joe Namith impression, Guaranteed that his 13 seeded squad will beat the Hoyas who are 2-5 in their last NCAA Tournament games
EWU doesn’t have a long way to travel, as they are playing in Portland, a two-hour drive from their campus, and have the number one scorer in the country Tyler Harvey.
“We’re not just happy to be here,” Hayford said to Rome. “We want to go do something special. My team in November won at Indiana and snapped the nation’s longest non-conference home winning streak at Assembly hall. We’re capable. If you’re still in a pool you can fill it in, you want to put the Eagles in. We play fast. We’re the third-leading scoring team in the country.”
Right before the interview was coming to an end, Hayford told Rome:
“We’re gonna win and talk again, Jim.”
You have to love the confidence this guy has and I hope he’s right. a 13 seed always beats a four every year and in my bracket pool (which you can join before noon today) I took EWU over Georgetown, so hopefully Hayford is right.
