The Philadelphia Eagles are in serious need for a receiver. If Bears standout Alshon Jeffery reaches free agency, Philadelphia is expected to pursue him via Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com.
Jeffery might stick with the Bears but they would likely have to franchise tag him for the 2nd straight year to ensure they he stays. Tagging him would cost the Bears roughly $17.5 million making that rather unlikely.
The Eagles have a number of targets including Kenny Stills and Desean Jackson. Regardless it appears the Eagles are making it a priority to get Carson Wentz some help. According to Overthecap.com, the Eagles have $9.8 million in cap space. Philly has already released Leodis McKelvin in a salary cap purge as more roster cuts are expected to come. The need becomes more pressuring because of the lousy play of Nelson Agholor.
Jeffery, 26, had a down year in 2016 and was suspended for PED’s. In 2016 with the Bears, Jeffery caught 52 passes for 821 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Bears will have about $53 million in cap space so they do have the money to re-sign him.
