ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, former Kansas City Chiefs back up Quarterback, has agreed on a multi-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, to reunite with Head Coach Doug Pederson.
When Doug Pederson was first introduced as the new Head Coach for the Eagles, rumors began that Chase Daniel and Pederson could reunite in Philadelphia, with Daniel approaching free agency. Pederson even spoke highly of Daniel after this season and he believed that given the opportunity, he was ready to become a starter.
With little to no NFL experience, Daniel was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2010 and for the next three years, he would be mentored by Drew Brees. Daniel ended up in Kansas City after his time in New Orleans and played under Andy Reid and Doug Pederson for last three seasons. Pederson has been working under the Reid regime since 2009 and since Daniel was so successful in Kansas City, Philadelphia was a no brainer.
Even though the Eagles and current starting Quarterback Sam Bradford had agreed upon a two-year deal for $36 million, it would seem strange why Philadelphia would bring in another Quarterback. But it could be a risky move that pays off heavily for Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman.
Although Bradford showed a lot of improvement by displaying his highest competition percentage of his career, he also totaled 14 interceptions last year, that was his second worst of his career. Pederson may think that Bradford has what it takes to remain as a starter, but if the worst case scenario plays out, Daniel will be a viable option at back up or could even take the starting job heading into training camp if he continues to show improvement.
This could be the beginning of a Quarterback controversy in Philadelphia, heading into the 2016 season.
