All good things must come to an end. After 32 years, E! has pulled the plug on E! News.
News of the show’s cancellation arrives as E! spins off from NBC News and folds into the newly launched company, Versant, which was formerly known as SpinCo. The newly formed enterprise will be comprised of the majority of Comcast’s NBCUniversal cable network portfolio, including USA, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and the Golf Channel. Meanwhile, NBC’s broadcast network, Peacock streaming service, Universal Studios, the theme parks, and Bravo will remain with Comcast.
“When you look at our assets, talented management team, and balance sheet strength, we are able to set these businesses up for future growth,” Comcast CEO Brian L. Roberts said. “With significant financial resources from day one, SpinCo [now Versant] will be ideally positioned for success and highly attractive to investors, content creators, distributors, and potential partners.”
In the absence of E! News, E! and Versant will turn their attention to the media outlet’s expansive digital presence. A source at E! says, “As news consumers demand real-time digital coverage, a broadcast during the 11 p.m. slot (which “E! News” has occupied since 2022) no longer best serves the audience.”
E! News will continue to run through the summer as usual until it says its final goodbye on September 25, 2025.
