Dwyane Wade has another year on his contract and many Bulls’ fans are not ecstatic about the possibility of him opting into that year. At 35 years old and not supplying much outside shooting for the Bulls, the $24 million he is due is a bit much. Unfortunately for those fans, it appears he will being staying. According to a Q&A with K.C. Johnson, most people with knowledge of the situation believe he will stay.
Well, it’s $23.8 million, as mentioned above. But you’re on it. And all I can tell you is most everyone associated with the Bulls believes Wade will pick up the option and remain in Chicago for a second season. More surprising things have happened in league history, though. So stay tuned. Wade’s player option decision is due by June 27 according to The Vertical’s Bobby Marks. Most previous reporting pegged it to June 30.
This is anything but a guarantee, however, it would be surprising if he decided to turn down that pay check. He is unlikely to get that type of money anywhere else and he joined the Bulls for a sentimental reason so he has more than just a fiscal obligation to stay. Sorry Bulls’ fans, next season is shaping up to look a lot like the last. But it wasn’t all bad, remember?
