Throughout his storied NBA career, Dwyane Wade has epitomized the Miami Heat; his name rhymes with the county for God’s sake. Wade shocked the world this summer when he went through with what most believed to be an empty threat and left Miami. Now a Chicago Bull, Wade is free to speak his mind on the Heat, and it sounds like Pat Riley, president of the organization, did not handle Wade’s free agency well. It doesn’t sound as though Wade harbors much loathing for the Heat, though, as he did not rule out an eventual return to the team in a Q&A with Sports Illustrated’s Rohan Nadkarni:
RN: Will you ever play another game for the Miami Heat?
Wade: I don’t know. I never thought I would not be there. At this point in my career, I’ve been asked that, and it’s not a focus of mine. I’m happy where I am. I gave Miami everything I had for 13 years. The years I have left, hopefully I can give as much to Chicago. You never know what the future holds so you never want to say yes or no. Anything is possible. But, I’m cool right now. I’m good.
Wade is the greatest player in Miami Heat franchise history and should he ever decide to return, fans would welcome him back with open arms. Maybe if the whole “banana boat” team never materializes, Wade can return to the Heat for a season or two for a farewell tour a la Kobe Bryant last season with the Lakers.
