Dwyane Wade’s representatives have reached out to the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs, league sources tell Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Wade, 33, had full intentions of contract negotiations going smoothly this summer with the Heat. With the start of free agency less than two days away, things are not going great for Wade and the franchise he’s spent his entire 13-year career with.
According to Windhorst, initial discussions between Wade and Miami have stalled, with neither side able to find common ground thus far. If you recall, the same incident occurred last summer between Wade and the Heat. The two sides eventually came together and agreed on a one-year, $20 million deal.
While Dwyane Wade is expected by many to eventually come to terms with the Heat, Wade has made it clear he’s open to testing the market.
Dallas and San Antonio, the only two teams in the league who have defeated Dwyane Wade’s team in the NBA Finals, would likely welcome Wade with open arms. The Mavericks, currently dealing with the possibility of losing Chandler Parsons in free agency, could manage to lure both Dwyane Wade and Hassan Whiteside from Miami (imagine that). I’d put those chances around 5%.
More realistically speaking, Dallas would love the veteran savvy attitude and experience that Wade brings to the table.
For San Antonio, they’re in the exact same boat. The Spurs, known for loading its roster with veterans of all positions over the past few seasons, would jump on the opportunity to land Wade in a heartbeat.
Dwyane Wade, who’s coming off a season that saw him average 19 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game, would obviously love to re-sign with Miami. Should the Heat anger Wade and offer him a low-ball deal, don’t be surprised to see the 3x NBA Champion seek other possibilities this summer.
