Miami Heat needed to go and prove to the league that they still are a serious contender for the NBA title and in the Eastern Conference. The Utah Jazz had other plans, beating the defending Eastern Conference champion in Miami, 105-87.
Gordon Hayward scored 29 points with 7 assists and 6 rebounds, Enes Kanter added 18 with 6 rebounds for the Utah Jazz. Alec Burks scored 12, Derrick Favors added 11 with 6 rebounds and Dante Exum had 10 for Utah coming off the bench.
Dwyane Wade scored 42 points for the Miami Heat. It was Wade’s biggest scoring game since he scored 45 on Dec. 29, 2010. Wade shot 12 of 19 from the field and 16-21 from the free throw line. The only other member of the Miami Heat to score in double figures was Mario Chalmers who had 11 points off the bench.
It was Wade’s biggest scoring output since he scored 45 on Dec. 29, 2010. It wasn’t enough to keep Miami from matching an atrocious franchise record with 4 straight double-digit losses at home, the first time that’s happened since way back in 1990.
The Heat were again without star center Chris Bosh, who missed his third straight game with a strained left calf. Miami used its 11th different starting lineup in 26 games. Heat have lost 7 of its last 8 home games and has dropped 4 straight at home for the first time since 2011.
Utah shot 53% from the field and made 14 3-pointers against the Heat.
The Jazz have won for just the second time in its last 14 games. Those two wins have come against last year’s NBA finalists, San Antonio and now the Heat — who are simply reeling at home.
Utah Jazz are 7-19. Miami Heat are 12-14.
