When the Miami Heat winning streak ended, I was giving them a standing ovation. The media were happy because it was at that time in US sports where nothing happens so literally everybody was watching the Heat.
When the streak ended, I like most of you thought that nobody will get there for a long time. But the Golden State Warriors had other plans, winning 24 games in a row. What was more impressive was that they did it off the blocks. The Heat’s streak was mid-season, they were preparing for the Playoffs. The Warriors simply just had that mindset immediately, that’s unprecedented and the Heat tip thier cap to the Warriors, specifically Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
”It’s a huge relief,” Heat forward Chris Bosh said. ”I’m on the outside looking in and I’m watching Monday Night Football and they’re talking about ‘the streak.’ I’m like, golly. The St. Louis Barons, what was it? That was in like 1818. Nobody knew that. The comparisons, the circus following you … man, they’re sitting in a very good spot.”
Bosh meant the St Louis Maroons that went 20-0 to start their 1884 baseball season. Carrying on.
”They’re 24-1,” Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. ”Crazy. … What they did was incredible, especially coming off a championship.”
”I’m not going to fight over a silver medal, man,” Bosh said. ”We wanted 33. They wanted 33. They fell short. We fell short. It’s still amazing, no matter what.”
As a matter of fact, it only just brings more shine to the Lakers and how they got to 33. The Heat and the Warriors proved that even going on a 5-10 game win streak is hard, let alone 24.
