The Atlanta Hawks’ season ended at the hand of the Washington Wizards, a 115-99 defeat in the first round of the playoffs. However the morning before the loss Hawks’ star center Dwight Howard sped into some trouble. According to Mitchell Northam of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and a police report, Howard was pulled over at 2:06 in the morning on April 28th for speeding. A few minutes after the arrest, the police towed his vehicle.
Howard, 31, was not only caught for speeding but also found to be driving on suspended registration and without insurance. He and his blue Audi were caught going 95mph in a 65mph zone and were closely followed by a black SUV, driven by one of Howard’s security guards. When police asked for registration and proof of insurance, Howard was unable to provide the latter and his car was subsequently towed. The Hawks have not commented on the situation.
Dwight Howard, an Atlanta native, endured an up and down season with the Hawks. He was put in check for most of the team’s first round exit in the playoffs and proceeded to complain about his role. The 6’11” big man finished with a career low average in points per game at 13.5, and appears to have very little trade value considering his hefty contract. The Atlanta Hawks recently announced some changes to their front office structure in an attempt to shake things up. It is possible that the Hawks may want to move on from the talented but underwhelming center.
