The moment has been building for Dwight Howard since his move to Los Angeles became official, now with the team set to install him into the lineup on Sunday when they host the Kings at Staples Center, Howard says he is starting to feel some nerves. The All-Star center says he gets nervous before every game he plays, but the debut in front of his new home fans will make him especially anxious.
“Like I told Steve [Nash], Howard said after practice Thursday, “I think I’ll be a little nervous out there for the first time but he said he would help me through it and hopefully it will be OK. New town, new city, I think everybody’s expecting a lot out of this team and they’re expecting a lot out of me, so I have to make sure I keep all of that out of my mind when I’m playing and just have fun.”
Howard had been hoping to get a number of preseason games under his belt in preparation for the regular season but the Lakers wish to take it slow with their big man, with an eye to keeping him healthy throughout the year.
