I don’t know what it is but whenever Dwight Howard says something remotely negative the media just has a field day. He’s so polarising. The only thing that hasn’t been ripped apart is how he ditched Adidas.
But a couple of days ago I wrote a post on how Dwight was apparently unhappy being second fiddle to James Harden. Now to be honest he has some reason. He’s 5th in Rockets’ individual field goal attempts, but then again he rests over a blocked nose. Lord knows why he thinks that he’ll play for another 10 years.
Howard has responded to the severely negative reports, saying that he’s trying to make it work.
“I chose to go to Houston (via free agency in the summer of 2013), so why would I just say, ‘I’m not happy’ and leave?” Howard, who is widely expected to become a free agent again this summer, told USA TODAY Sports. “I chose this place, you know what I’m saying? And I want to make this thing work here. Obviously we haven’t been playing great basketball, and personally for myself my numbers don’t seem like I’ve been playing great, but the only thing on my mind is trying to grow as a man and grow as a teammate and a leader. All the BS that’s around, sometimes it is frustrating to hear it, because I know who I am as a man and I know what I’m trying to do for this city.“
Now let’s all understand that Howard is nowhere near the main reason for the Rockets being mediocre this season. The whole Rockets team aren’t up to snuff and the West is a worse this year compared to last year when they made the Western Conference Finals.
As for Howard, if he is leaving Houston after this season, he has to prove to the league why he deserves a good deal. He has to show that he’s still legitimate and can possibly play for the next 10 years like he proclaims.
