Atlanta Hawks center Dwight Howard was admitted to the Hospital last night, a person with knowledge of the situation said Monday morning.
Howard was in the midst of a near 18-hour trip from China to Georgia when he suddenly began to feel nauseous, the source said. Howard spent the last few days overseas working with his shooting coach.
Zach Klein of WGCL-TV, the CBS affiliate in Atlanta, was first to report on the story, citing dehydration as the likely cause. Klein also reported Howard was released from the Hospital early this morning after receiving treatment.
The Hawks, meanwhile, are continuing an exhaustive medical review on Howard, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. All indications are positive right now, and Howard is expected to be back to full health soon.
“I just wanna say I truly appreciate everyone who reached out to check on me, thank you. To the flight attendants and doctors thank you”, Howard tweeted Tuesday night.
Howard, a former Defensive Player of the Year, signed a three-year deal with the Hawks this offseason after a tumultuous stint with Houston. He’s posted several videos on Instagram and Twitter during the offseason, showing how much work he’s putting into his game.
Howard holds career averages of 17.8 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game. He’s entering his 13th season in the league, and his first with the Hawks. To this point, the Hawks have opted not to comment on the matter.
