This year, Dwayne Johnson stepped into a new realm — superhero films. Just a few months ago, Johnson made his debut as Black Adam alongside Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman. The film also featured the world’s most iconic superhero — Superman. However, Johnson says that bringing Henry Cavill was more difficult than he had previously anticipated. In fact, the star actor claims that Warner Bros. “inexplicably and inexcusably” attempted to keep Cavill’s Superman out of the film.
“This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back and years of strategic conversations and we were not going to take no for an answer,” Johnson said.
“There was no way, there’s no viable logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC Universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines. It’s impossible to do.”
Johnson intends to continue playing the role of Black Adam in future Warner Bros. films, but he feels that Superman is the key to taking the DC Universe to new heights. As he puts it, Cavill is the “greatest” to play the role of Superman.
“It all comes back to where Superman you have to have Superman in the mix. So that’s why we fought hard to bring Superman back, Henry Cavill, and there was no other Superman, by the way, to bring back Henry Cavill is our generation Superman and in my opinion, the greatest Superman,” Johnson explained.
“And I mean that respectfully to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve, but the greatest Superman of all time.”
With Black Adam under his belt, Johnson wants to “build out the DC Universe, properly, strategically and smartly.”
