The Boston Red Sox will enter the 2017 season without David Ortiz for the first time since 2002. Big Papi will be missed and a huge leadership void seems to be one thing that’s being forgotten. Stud 2nd baseman Dustin Pedroia looks like he will take on the leadership void in 2017.
“Yeah, I don’t look at it any differently than previous years,” Pedroia said via Ian Browne. “You show up to win every day. That’s what we’re going to try to do. Obviously the guys know if they need anything they can come to me or anybody. That’s what we’re going to try to do.”
Pedey is coming off an amazing 2016 season where he slashed .318/.376/.449 with 15 homers and 74 RBIs. Red Sox fans love Pedey’s energy as he hops on every single pitch at second base. There is a ton of excitement heading into the Red Sox season for many reasons. Manager John Farrell believes Pedroia is just the guy to lead the Red Sox into the future.
“Pedey has been a leader for a number of years already,” said Red Sox manager John Farrell. “That won’t change.”
