“We’re not going to go out there and say: ‘Oh we’re embracing this villain thing and it’s great,'” said Draymond Green. “Like who cares what somebody makes us out to be? We’re trying to win basketball games. And if they want to make us the villain then that’s fine. They’re going to boo us anyway everywhere we go, so that’s fine. The most fun I have in this game is going on another team’s floor and quieting their crowd anyways. So, boo. Eventually, you’ll shut up and I’ll laugh, and we’ll laugh, and we’ll keep moving.”
Green continued speaking about his love of taking on opposing teams on the road:
“To go on the road and obviously everybody wants us to lose, and to go out and quiet the crowd, that’s the best feeling. That’s what motivates you and your team to go out there and win. So, I think that works for us rather than against us.”
When a reporter pointed out that the amount of Golden State supporters across the nation leads to a large number of Warriors fans at many road games, Green responded:
“I mean there are some arenas we go to and it’s like we’re a home team. But at the same time, I mean I got booed — along with KD, along with Klay — in the United States, with a USA jersey on. I mean, Jesus Christ, give me a break! I just don’t understand some people. Like, even if I hate you and whatever team you play for, like if you’re going to wear a USA jersey and go represent my country, for one day I can give it up and say: ‘Yo I’m going to cheer for this guy.’ If they’re going to boo us with a USA jersey on, I can only imagine how it’s going to be with a Warriors jersey. So, more power to those people,” Green concluded. “They’re angry about something in life and I’m not sure what it is.
