Golden State Warriors are riding high, they top the NBA with the best record in the league, they have a leading MVP candidate in Stephen Curry and great cohesiveness that many teams would dream for.
There is some speculation of what’s going to happen next. The main questions about the future involve the future of forwards like David Lee and especially Draymond Green.
There were reports about Green potentially interested in joining his hometown Detroit Pistons and it seems like Draymond’s mindset may already be in the future.
From Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
The Golden State Warriors have the best record in the NBA and Draymond Green is enjoying the ride as much as possible.
Green will be a restricted free agent and there has been speculation that either David Lee or Andre Iguodala will be traded in the offseason to help the Warriors’ salary situation.
“I’ve said it multiple times this year, we know how good we are,” Green said. “We’re having so much fun. It’s a fun group to be around. It’s easy to capitalize on this, when you enjoy being around the people you’re around every day. This is a special group, a special bond, so let’s make the best of it, because this team will probably never be together again.
“That’s just the nature of this business. One addition, one subtraction, and the team isn’t together no more. So take advantage of it while you’ve got it because I’m sure this team will never be together again. It’s a fun time. One of the funnest times of my life. Live in the moment.”
Green is smart for sure. He knows the ins and outs of the NBA and how it’s all a business. Technically he’s right, even if one guy moves off the team, it will never be the same. The only issue is, who will be the guys to leave? Would it be someone who is so important and vital to the Warriors success like Draymond Green or David Lee or would it just be a bottom of the bench player?
While his coach Steve Kerr believes Green can be a key player to look at for the next decade, it might not be what Green wants to do. Draymond Green is preparing for the worst and you can’t blame him with how well this team is playing. All the players on the Warriors that will be available will be hot commodities for sure and that could mean one of the best teams we’ve ever seen might be breaking up.
