Draymond Green has reached a plea deal on the assault charges brought upon him recently. The Golden State Warriors forward will now avoid any jail time and will have reduced charges. The plea deal was announced by officials on Friday and reported by Christopher Haxel of the Lansing State Journal.
Green was arrested on July 10 after allegations that he slapped a Michigan State football player. Details were hard to come by with some reports that it was a friendly exchange and some that made the situation much worse.
As part of the plea deal, Green will pay a $500 fine and a $60 restitution fee. Additionally, he is to not have contact the accuser for one year.
Currently training with Team USA, Green would have had to appear in person for two separate events, including the trial, if not for the plea deal. According to his attorney, Green chose the plea deal rather than a jury trial simply because of his Team USA duties.
Draymond Green could still face a civil lawsuit if the accuser chooses to continue with the allegations. His camp plans to defend such an action “vigorously” if it does indeed happen.
