The New Orleans Pelicans are an NBA team and obviously don’t need any motivation to win basketball games, it’s what they’re supposed to do, especially when you’re trying to make the NBA Playoffs.
Last week, controversy occurred when there were reports that the Golden State Warriors camp was saying that a game vs. the New Orleans Pelicans was like a ‘scrimmage’. This led to the Pelicans surprisingly winning the game, which led to their playoff birth, which led to them playing the same Warriors team.
Now, Draymond Green, who comments on everything, made his comments on the incident. According to Sam Amick of USA Today:
“Our team was joking,” Green said. “Their ballboy likes to talk a lot of junk, and we’ll talk junk back. But there’s this belief that I was the one who said it. I’ll take the credit for it, but I’m not. I’m not one to throw someone under the bus.
“They were saying some things. We were saying some things. I wouldn’t necessarily say we called it a scrimmage, but there were some words back and forth. It happens every time we play them. … They just felt the need to try to motivate themselves.”
I personally don’t understand the problem with calling a game with the Pelicans a ‘scrimmage’. A team like the Warriors should have confidence, and enough confidence to say that some teams aren’t in their tax bracket. I love trash talk, and whenever it’s blown out of proportion it bothers me. Trash talk exists in sports because of the passion these players show about the sports they love. When the talk is about the game, I love it.
