Draymond Green is sure looking forward to free agency, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports, but the limitation remaining is that Green is a restricted free agent, meaning the Warriors will have the opportunity to match any offer sheet that he signs with another team. Green is undoubtedly going to be one the hottest commodities on the free agent market and it’s no surprise to hear that he is looking forward to the experience.
“I just want to have fun and enjoy this process. So I’m not going in there with no expectations for this or expectations for that. That would take away the enjoyment. And that’s what I want, I want to enjoy this.”
Also saying:
“I’m excited about it. I’m not nervous or anything about it. What’s going to happen is what’s going to happen. It’s a great time.”
Draymond Green is currently being courted by his hometown Detroit Pistons along with the Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets, so the Warriors are definitely going to have their work cut out for them matching any offers that are put on the table from those respective teams. If the Warriors hold true to their word, they will match any offer for Green, no matter how hefty the price. Green, just 25 years old, had a career year last season averaging 11.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, and will likely sign for the max depending on where he choses to go.
Green’s value skyrocketed when he became a starter for the first time in his career and had a major role in the Golden State Warriors’ 67-win season that resulted in them winning a championship. Is that alone worth a max deal? Probably not, but then again, there are a lot of players getting max deals in the NBA that are not worth the money.
When asked about his time with the Warriors, Green said,
“It was fun. I built relationships that will last a lifetime. They’re a first-class organization. I had a great experience, but that probably won’t change.”
