In the Atlanta Haws press-conference prior to yesterday’s matchup with the Golden State Warriors, coach Mike Budenholzer woke the wrong beast. Budenholzer explained that game planning for Steph Curry and Klay Thompson is the most important aspect of preparation. On the subject of outspoken star Draymond Green, ‘Coach Bud’ feels that there is no need to game plan for him. “He’s a unique player. He’s so unique, but I don’t know that he’s the guy that you game plan for,” Budenholzer said.
The Hawks paid the price.
After the Warriors swept the season series over Atlanta with a 119-111 victory, Green did not mince words when asked about Budenholzer’s comments. “And that’s exactly why they can’t beat us,” Green said to ESPN. “That’s exactly why they won’t. Don’t game plan for me.”
Draymond Green is the ultimate playmaker capable of doing so many different things on the floor. On top of being an excellent defender, he is a great passer and tenacious rebounder. Green finished last night’s game with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and added four steals. That stat line is a good indicator of how impactful a player Green is.
The Hawks have lost five straight to the Warriors. While not game planning for Draymond Green isn’t the only contributing factor, he most certainly must be accounted for. He is the glue that holds Golden State in place and the blade that cuts other teams apart.
Green has been vocal lately. Recently he chastised the Knicks for not having music during timeouts in Sunday afternoon’s game. He also had a spat with Clippers forward Paul Pierce several weeks ago
