In what has been a thrilling first five games, the Western Conference Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets will only get more intense as we inch towards a conclusion.
The Warriors find themselves in an unfamiliar hole, down 3-2 with the series heading back to Oakland for Game 6. Even with the deficit, the Warriors and specifically outspoken forward Draymond Green have no shortage of confidence. According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, Green made the guarantee that there would be a Game 7 back in Houston, agreeing with Stephen Curry that this series reminds them of their battle against the Memphis Grizzlies years ago:
In the locker room, Curry and Draymond Green were discussing the vibe of the series and agreed that it reminded them of the series with the Memphis Grizzlies from three years ago. They found themselves down 2-1 before winning three straight to meet the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals.
Told by ESPN that these Rockets are not the Grizzlies, Green responded assertively: “We’ll be back here for Game 7.”
And when questioned about the team’s inconsistency of late, Green replied: “You’d be a fool not to believe me. If you don’t ever believe anything I say, believe this: We’re a group of champions.”
Even though they are down, it’s completely fair for Draymond Green to still have the utmost confidence in his team. As the heart and soul of this talented Warriors team, this is exactly what you want to hear from the roster’s leader.
Over the past few years, the Warriors haven’t had to face much adversity, steamrolling through the regular season then the playoffs in two of the past three seasons. However, the Rockets themselves boast a historic offensive threat, the likes of which Golden State has never seen before now.
Still, the Warriors are the defending champions and undoubtedly the more talented team, especially with Chris Paul out for Game 6 and his status for Game 7 looking murky at best. We’ll see if Green and his counterparts can back up their confidence against a hampered Rockets squad in Game 6 Saturday at 9:00 PM at Oracle.
