Now in his 5th season, Draymond Green has become a household name throughout the NBA and with fans everywhere. While it’s been his play that has gotten most of the attention, his on the court antics and overall demeanor has gotten its fair share of attention. Because of this, Green has been compared, by some people, to Hall of Famer and TNT analyst Charles Barkley. So how do these comparisons sit with Green?
Following from Chris Haynes of ESPN.
“Hell no,” he responded promptly. “I’m the modern-day Draymond Green. F— no.”
A very clear answer there from Green, but he went more in depth about the subject and got to the root of his charismatic personality. While pointing out a famous quote from Barkley, Green gave some insight on how he was brought up and that’s why he’s the way he is.
“[Chuck] told y’all in ’90-what that he wasn’t your kid’s role model anyway … so there you have it,” Green said. “He wasn’t my role model. I grew up in Saginaw, Michigan. … That’s what you do, you talk. You talk junk during basketball. That’s how I was raised. I was raised in a family like that, so I didn’t need a Charles Barkley to influence me.”
