Boston Celtics fans who attended Friday’s game against Golden State made their opinions crystal clear to Kevin Durant. They didn’t hold back, relentlessly booing him throughout the contest.
Durant was an unrestricted free agent this past summer, and narrowed down his options to three teams: The Warriors, the Thunder, and the Celtics. Boston fans were confident Durant would choose them; Durant was seriously impressed by their free-agent meeting.
But in the end, Durant would ultimately choose to sign with the Warriors, and since then, has been ridiculed, despised, hated and brushed off by some Celtics fans. Please note, the keyword is ‘some’: Not all Celtics supporters believe in this.
Regardless, the boos inside of TD Garden on Friday night were loud and boisterous. Durant’s teammate, Draymond Green, has a message for those fans.
From Anthony Slater of the Mercury News:
The boos, loud early, had dissipated late, as if the fans realized, if anything, they were only fueling Durant.
“Fans must be desperate,” Draymond Green said. “Boo someone for taking a (free agent) interview? That’s crazy. I don’t get that. Y’all boo someone for interviewing with y’all? They may scare free agents away. They may want to be careful with that.”
Said Durant: “No hard feelings. I still have love for Boston.”
For Kevin Durant, thoughts pertaining to the Celtics are in the past. He’s focused on the Warriors in the present day, and, despite having a sincere appreciation for the city of Boston, has no interest in discussing anything related to the Celtics.
