Drake sells unlike any other artist of his generation and its hard to argue at this point. This week, the Toronto native became the first artist to debut three songs within the top three of the Billboard Hot 100. “What’s Next” landed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with “Wants and Needs” and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” following behind. “What’s Next” is Drake’s eighth number one hit and his first of 2021. Overall, this feat earns him his 43rd, 44th and 45th top ten hits. The only other acts to push three songs into the top three at once over time are Ariana Grande and The Beatle.
This news comes days after it was reported that Drake’s Scary Hours II EP was projected to move one million units in one week. If projections hold, this would be a major improvement from the first Scary Hours pack, which moved 90,000 units in its first week.
Following behind Drake, Silk Sonic’s debut single, “Leave The Door Open,” hit number four on the charts. Also, Drake’s fellow Toronto native, The Weeknd, still holds two spots in the Billboard Hot 100 top ten. One year after their release, “Save Your Tears” and “Blinding Lights” sit at number seven and number eight respectively. Adding on, Cardi B sits at number six with her most recent single, “Up.”
