DreamCrew Entertainment, led by Aubrey Drake Graham and Adel “Future the Prince” Nur, has signed on to produce a documentary about the life and career of David Hammons. The project will be led by director Judd Tully and producer Harold Crooks.
“With Drake’s DreamCrew Entertainment joining us as Executive Producers, we are closer than ever to our goal of bringing our documentary about the ‘tragic magic’ practice of the great conceptual artist David Hammons to a global audience,” Tully and Crooks said, according to Deadline.
“Hammons’ unprecedented rule-breaking career — from the ’60s Black Power art movement to his rise as one of the most sought-after contemporary artists — is about far more than the art world. It’s a commentary on America.”
Raised in Springfield, Illinois, Hammons is a graduate of CalArts and Otis College of Art and Design. He has gone on to become of the most critically-acclaimed artists of his generation. His work has been featured in the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Museum of Modern Art and several other prestigious forums.
“David Hammons is a legend and an inspiration to me and everyone at my company DreamCrew,” Drake said, according to Deadline.
“For us to be involved in this film, which conveys all the genius and humor of his important contemporary art, is truly a privilege.”
