In what could be a game-changing move for Apple, the company is looking to expand their wings even further. With music and video streaming on the rise in terms of popularity and media attention, Apple wants to try their hands and hop in with competitors such as YouTube, Spotify, and the the ever so “controversial” Tidal. As if the company couldn’t pitch and sell something like this off their name alone, it’s being reported that that they are in talks with Drake for a multi-million dollar deal that will see the rapper partnering with them in various ways to potential ensure success.
Apple is in talks to sign a rumored $19 million deal to get “Started From the Bottom” rapper Drake as a guest DJ for iTunes Radio, among other things. Drake is just one of a host of artists Apple wants to snag for its huge all-encompassing assault on the music front.
Not only that, it is also reported that iPhone creators will are trying to fuse various aspects of their competitors into one huge platform which will perhaps help reduce any deviation from subscribers.
Apple’s plans appear aimed at taking the best of Pandora, Spotify and YouTube and blending it into something that will outgun them all. There are plans for streaming music (and video), artists’ pages, a YouTube-style post-it-yourself destination called Apple Connect and a well-documented reboot of iTunes Radio.
With this reported news, perhaps this is why Drake was missing in action at the launch of Tidal, which includes some of the music industry’s heavy-hitters. Nevertheless, it’ll be very interesting to see if this music service will suffer the same backlash and skepticism as Tidal or will it be an initial success, just like a countless amount of the brand’s other offerings.
