Goran Dragic was traded to the Miami Heat on Thursday, one of the teams on his “wish list,” and is expected to sign a 5 year max deal with the team according ESPN.com’s Ramona Shelburne.
The Heat gave up two first round picks for Dragic, who can opt-out of his contract after this season, and wouldn’t have pulled the trigger on acquiring last year’s NBA Most Improved Player if he wasn’t committed to an extension.
Dragic already makes the heat better, giving the team a huge upgrade at the point guard position, replacing the Norris Cole/Mario Chalmers combo.
If everyone can stay healthy, a Miami starting five of Dragic, Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, Chris Bosh (Who may miss the rest of the season,) and emerging Hassan Whiteside could be very dangerous for teams to compete with.
That being said Miami doesn’t have much depth which could cause trouble for them. Staying healthy is going to be the key for a Heat playoff run, as Wade and Deng have been injury prone often in the past, and now with Chris Bosh possibly missing the season, the team might need to turn directly to Dragic right away.
