On Friday, August 7, 2015, we saw the release of Dr. Dre’s third solo studio album, Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre. Making it his first album in almost 16 years, the west coast legend surprised all with the initial announcement. Making it clear that Detox was completely scrapped, all eyes were on this project to see just how well it would deliver. Met with rave reviews from critics and fans alike, it turns out that thousands upon thousands were out in full force as Compton debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 295,000 albums shifted, including streaming. This puts him just behind Luke Bryan who debuted with 345,000. The number 1 spot isn’t out the question for Dr. Dre as this past Friday saw the release of the N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton. With the film’s initial success, which draws more attention to old and new music, we could see Dr. Dre sitting atop of the chart as early as next week.
